Want crank now
On my 1981,and it’s had all the computer carb and intake have been replaced,but the other day cranked it up,and let it run 5 minutes,I already have seats out and carpet out to replace,and need to replace heater core,and also check a couple gauges,so started taking the shifter plate and center gauges off,and have all the screws out,still haven’t got them completely off,as I’m sure some things are still holding on,and did remove radio out completely,and I even had to of course put shifter in neutral to try and get shifter plate off,but something is holding it on,so hadn’t got it off yet,but later went to crank it up,and nothing happened,no inside lights or anything,so either I snatched a wire off some where maybe under shifter plate possibly,or either maybe something dealing with the shifter maybe unhooked or is it possible a safety switch for shifter,where maybe it’s not in park,even though shifter is in park,oh yes automatic.I did a couple weeks ago replace my oil dip stick,and it has a bracket on it that bolts to the block with the ground wire is connected,I guess it’s possible it could be loose but very doubtful with that since I might have cranked it only 4 or 5 times since then.

If you're getting nothing when trying to start, then probably the neutral safety switch, which is mounted on the side of the shifter. You'll see it on the passenger side of the shifter when you remove the top of the console.
