I don't think the Willcox Tech Tips are online anymore. They had a section telling you what different gauge behaviors meant for your wiring.

Fortunately, videos that had been uploaded to YouTube are still there, like this.

I bought a Lectric Limited for my 79, had the threads cut down to 3/8" to fit my aluminum heads and it's not accurate at all. Reads low.

And is Willcox gone for good? I know there was talk about that. There website is no longer up.

I have seen repop gauges that supposedly work with new senders.
Hell of a situation acdelco created when they fecked up the standard.

someone should call lec limited and tell em they are full of ****.

Thanks for the help guys, I think I got this water temp issue resolved! Onward. With the Lectric limited sensor I’m ready 220* on the gauge and 195* F at the water neck with an IR sensor. There is a 190* thermostat installed.

Stock BB and Dewitt’s radiator at 85* outside temp. I do have everything installed but the side and top radiator seals.

It sounds like your IR reading is accurate. Not sure why the Lectric Limited sender reads high. I thought the Willcox tech tips showed a fix for that. Perhaps it is still hosted elsewhere.

Reading high beats the alternative. You only need to notice a change for tge gauge to serve its primary purpose.

Sorry to see the LL sender isn’t working out. Mine reads dead on in my 75 with a small block compared against my IR gun. So odd. The old sender which was from a 1980 Camaro (I think) was reading 30 to 40 degrees low across the board but the LL one seems to track perfectly with the gun up through the temp range.

The Vette is a 71 LS5 for reference, it could be the resistance.I measured the resistor but didn’t write the number down. The resistor from Wilcox that can be adjusted is interesting but I’ve got to get this project completed (7years!). I’m far from experienced in electrical but was concerned about going down the rabbit hole with try different resistors or adjustable type. You may still get inaccurate readings at different ends of the gauge scale?
Im just going to keep an eye on the infrared readings and adjust for what I’m seeing on the gauge. Thousands of people owned and drove these millions of miles and most never looked at the gauge!

The one I bought from AutoZone worked for a few days and then started reading 250+... Piece of junk.

Site is gone. I read elsewhere on the forum that the owner, Ernie Fry, passed away not long ago.

His YouTube videos are still there though.
