Default oil dipstick, no nut?

on my 74’ the dipstick is free floating, and I’ve read that there is supposed to be a place to anchor it down with a nut, but I don’t see anything on the exhaust manifold, or on the block where a nut would secure it.
thoughts?

It is just a press fit. The newer 350 engines with a passenger side dipstick have a bolt to hold it in.

interesting, I tried earlier to shove it in there, so it wouldn’t move, but it doesn’t take a whole lot to move it.But if that’s how it is and it’s OK, I’m OK with it.
thanks for the reply, good to know that I’m not missing some thing on the car

Some guys clean the opening and expand the tube, then use a socket ( or a round hole tool) to push the tune into the block. You want the tube be pressed into the block.

I replaced mine with a chrome one, mine has a small bracket,it bolts to the block where the big black ground wire is bolted.

My old one a shop was doing some work on my engine, and they broke my bracket off,the chrome on is a tad longer, but fits great.

I replaced my '72's dipstick tube and found the length was different from the bulge upwards. This would affect the oil level reading on the dipstick – in my case, overfilling the crankcase. I measured the pan-side stickout of the dipstick from the bulge to the tip when inserted in the old original tube and trimmed the top of the new one to get the same amount extending into the pan. As I recall, I ended cutting off about 1/4".

Yea,I think this chrome one was for a deeper pan than stock pan,I haven’t drained oil yet,so can tell exactly where it is on dip stick when I change oil,so I can where it is on dip stick.
