Anyone done a composite rear spring upgrade? Is it worth the $500 for the spring?
Since I’ve retired, I’m planning a series of overnight “back road only" trips and looking to enhance the ride quality.
Yes, I understand it’s a sports car and won't ever ride like a caddy.
I'm being recommended a #330 low arch composite spring.
I have already replaced the shocks.
My car is a 71 C3, 350 CI, 270 HP, 4 speed manual, convertible.
Thanks much for impute! Is it worth the money?
I run a dual mount VBP ? out of business now, Van Steel has taken over this product & replacement parts for it.
I don't remember the spring rate but as far as running back country roads or freeways it's nice and smooth, Bilistein shocks now
get into crappy bumpy pot hole roads it get like an old covered wagon ride
I also run a 71, convertible, Doug Nash 4+1, 3:08 rear = definitely the verts have much more flex
No sir I haven't considered that product. The OEM springs are perfectly fine and I'm mostly looking for feedback from others that have upgraded their springs and was it worth it.
I put in a composite mono spring back in the 90's. A VB&P 330.
And frankly I'm surprised that a whole lot of people haven't chimed in by now, I guess timing is everything.
Bottom line. The glass mono spring is way worth the money! Hands down a HUGE improvement over the shitty steel multi leaf springs.
Ask yourself. Did GM stick with the steel multi leaf spring? Look at the C4. Or even the last of the C3's.
You do need the correct shocks to match.
Bilstien B8's on mine.
You couldn't pay me to put the factory gymkhana rear spring back on mine.
Handles better and rides better.
I have the Van Steel 360lb spring and QA1 single adjustable shocks. The ride is less harsh than the steel spring and the handling is better. If I had to do it over again I would go with the 330 lb spring and add a small rear sway bar.
I have the VBP 330lb Monoleaf and Bilstein Sport shocks which is great for running the back roads, however, the ride is firm so you can feel the quality of the roads.
I have a VB&p composite spring thats either a 330 or 360 (not sure as I purchased used with no discernible markings). I installed it a few months ago along with a pair of viking dual adjustable shocks. I have yet to get the new front end components installed but the ride quality has noticeably improved. I have my shocks set for stiffer performance though.

What he said. I installed the VB&P composite rear spring back in the '90's. It is one of the best mods I have done. Better handling, smoother ride. No down side.
Many thanks for the numerous responses to my composite spring upgrade question!
The overwhelming consensus, that is at least from those who have done the upgrade is it's an excellent product and well worth the money.
I've decided to install the #330 spring. I have already installed QA1 shocks and will do the spring when I reinstall the diff which is currently being rebuilt at Van Steel.
Again, many thanks.
