I have a 72 Corvette, 4 speed coupe.
After a drive yesterday I noticed a clip lying on the floor mat on the driver side. I have no idea where it came from. If i had to guess I would say something to do with the clutch pedal/arm. It looks important so I'm afraid to drive it before I identify the part.
Looks like the retention clip for the clutch pedal pivot stud. You’ll likely need to remove the driver’s seat so you can get your head on the floor to see but you should be able to attach a replacement without having to disassemble anything else.
They are called “G” Clips, all the vendors Sell them, look where the tranny parts are listed. Your car must be mostly original, seems like most shops or Bubba types replace them with cotter pins. My Manual transmission shift linkage has cotter pins, because someone was too lazy to get the g clips. I changed out the ones I could get to.

It looks a lot like the clips used on the Muncie linkage rods. Am i mistaken?

A bench at floor level with the seat all the way back works great for working under the dash.

After taking a closer look at the old clip, I noticed a lot of wear on the side of the clip. Lots of flat shiny flat spots on the side of the clip. When I got under the dash I realized that the wear was due to not having a flat washer between the rod and the clip. When I installed another clip I was sure to install a new flat washer. Hope that helps.
I didn't see the bench trick until after I finished. That is a good idea. Luckily my car has a tilt column or I may never have gotten in there. Or out once I got in. I will try that the next time I need to get under the dash. Not much room on there.
