front bearing should be a slip fit right on unless there's a problem , no pressing about it

Front hub/bearings should easily slide onto spindle w/o force. You can feel the inner seal engage, so make sure that has some grease on the step. Torque the castle nut per spec then back it off just enough to get the cotter key in. This seems like a lot of torque, given they are almost always finger loose when removing. When done correctly the spindle should move by hand but not spin freely or have any in/out play.
