UPDATE: Problem resolved. Thanks for the suggestions
Attempting to install the rear spring in my 1973. Have read several posts and attempted the method that suggests using a c clamp, block of wood and jacking the spring up until the bolt protrudes far enough to get the rubber bushing, washer and nut in place. This is a complete car with the original 9 leaf spring. Any advice is appreciated. The problem I’m having is that before the spring compresses enough to install the hardware, the car raises up and I can’t install the hardware. Thanks.

I use a rubber sanding block between the jack pad and the spring. This keeps the spring from slipping on the jack pad. Orient the jack parallel to the spring so the jack can move while you raise the spring.
