I found this switch dangling in my '76 Vette earlier today. Had the car a little less than a year. Going through the engine and found it dangling on the passenger side of the firewall, just below the exhaust manifold. Which is now headers. I have never touched this thing, so whatever it is had been dangling by the wires all the time I have had the car. Highway driving. Going on a limb here and speculate this is not a good thing. Anyone know what it is? It was hidden pretty well, you'd have to bee looking for something. Tried searching, but hard to know what to search for. Spring loaded switch thing? The silver end is spring loaded.
Where do the other ends of the wires go, or are there even wires attached to it? Does everything on your car work? Might be part of an added on alarm system....
The wires go into a wire bundle along the firewall. Haven't had time to trace it all back. Everything works except for A/C (compressor long since removed)
Good point. Could be part of something someone added long ago that's not all there anymore. I don't recognize this as a corvette part, but then again it has been quite some time since I owned a C3
I don't recognize it. Is it still hooked up to anything? Perhaps it was a remote start button to crank the engine while making valve adjustments, for example.
Thanks for the tips. Whatever it is or was, it likely has not been in use for some time. The wire it attaches too will not allow it to reach more than a few inches from the firewall on the passenger side. I'll probably just cut it off. Definitely not a factory part I think.
