I'm just about to replace the rear bushing and seal in my '71 SBC Muncy M20 transmission as part of a refresh. The car hasn't been driven for over 33 years, but before that I hadn't noticed any problems with the driveline. I have noticed a slight score line on the yoke as shown in the attached photos:
Can this yoke be reinstalled with the new bushing and seal or will it cause problems for my hopefully weekend cruiser restoration?
I would use it..but having it out i would have the driveshaft balanced to be sure that part is not out of balance. I had to replace mine to balance here and replacement usa made.
I would clean it up a little with a very fine stone or fine grit crocus cloth.
Worse case senerio, it might leak a little and you might want to deal with it then. Easyand cheap job to replace the seal.
Do you have any indication that the shaft is out of balance?
Can't say that I do (or did), but it's been over 30 years since the car was last driven. Maybe a better plan is to just reassemble and wait to see if there's any vibrations once the car is back togther and running again.
