Default 68 Carpet Adventure

So I'm to point of installing my carpet. I've read that I should start with the wheel wells. I don't remember which brand of carpet I bought, probably the cheapest !!! Any how, it doesn't seem to form very well around the wheel wells and various humps. I'm thinking its because of the thick randomly placed padding on the back ! It's a good half inch thick. Do I need all that padding or should i just pull it off ?

I'm in the middle of doing this myself right now and I started on the front first....go figure. I just watched a video last night where he suggested to use hot water and a heat gun to help form the carpet into the shape you need.
I also have the padding on my carpet and am going to leave it on and see how it goes.....I'll see if I can find the video.

Have you read all the how to articles from posts on the Forum? One important truck is to leave the New Carpet in the That is parked outside in the hot sun for an entire day. The carpet will be flexible and your job will be tons easier. The more you read, the more tricks and tips you will have. Go slow, make small cuts, use a pencil soldering iron to make holes, once you use scratch awls to locate any holes that need to be made in the carpet.

I had the same problem fitting carpet to the rear wheel wells. I recall the left side fit the worst, the molded hump was totally wrong and the jute was glued to the carpet in the wrong place. I ended up removing the jute and taking pie slices out of the carpet then glueing everything down.
The carpet did fit the main cabin fairly well.

Heat helps somewhat, but it's not a cure all. Be careful with heat gun, you can melt the carpet fibers with it fairly easily.

The next time I do carpet in a car, I'm going to use the stuff he used in the above video. Look how flexible it is.
