Default Extra connectors

Was cleaning up the engine bay today and removing everything cruise control related. Seems there are extra connectors in the engine bay. My guess is they are for emissions or computer stuff but always welcome expert opinions. It is a 79 L48 auto

Weatherpack connectors? Like this kit at Amazon?

All I can say is that there are zero Weatherpack connectors under the hood of my 79 L48 auto. There are also zero Weatherpack connectors on the brand-new engine wiring harness I have from Lectric Limited.

It turns out the Cruise Control system in my 79 was aftermarket, and I'll be yanking it out. Haven't found any Weatherpack connectors there, yet, either. If your cruise control is original, the dealer invoice will show it. You can order it directly from GM, if that is helpful.

Those plugs look to be part of the GM's Computer Control Command system which I believe first came out in 1980.

Perhaps!

OP, can decipher the engine stamp pad for us? Is it possible that you have the engine from a 1980 California 305ci, or from the CCC 81 (all cars)?

None of those connectors are in my 80, either, but I don't have the CCC system.

I bet a previous owner installed something.

I am finding a lot of things the PO did that would make him a POS. For instance. The front fenders look to be off a later model year as the have the side vents in them.

How about some photos of the rest of the car?

I'm not saying any malfeasance took place or was intended, and it's your car now, but between the 81-only connectors under the hood, is it at least possible that you have an 81 car with a 79 VIN? Or car that was restored with parts from another?

Can you check the engine stamp pad for the suffix code? Perhaps you have a 1981 L81, or a 1980 LG4 (California only), that could explain the connectors.

Lots of C3s were fixed with parts from other years, and the 80-82 nose was more aerodynamic and a popular choice. There are lots of differences between 1979 and 1980 that are easy to spot, including the gauge of steel used in the frame.

Thanks for the follow up. I will be able to have more pics when it is pulled out over the weekend for tinkering.

There is a factory Weatherpack connector on my '80 down by the transmission. Part of the lockup torque converter system I believe.

My 1980 L48 has none of those weather connectors. Mine is a late model 1980.

Some pictures.
Side view while up on ramps to do an electric headlight conversion. Electric headlight conversion done. Just have to permanently hook up the power and trigger wires and lock down the adjusting rods.
Pic of the engine pad in back by the trans. According to the numbers it is a 77 to 79 block.
Tried to loosen the distributor lock down bolt to tweak the timing and that thing is not budging. Will try later when everything cools down.

I think what you got is a 80 305 California car or a 81 with a late 79 350 block. My assumption is that someone wanted a little more oomph and swapped in a non computer 350. Nobody is going to swap in a Computer Control Command system into a 79 car.

Strange part is it has a 79 VIN. Guess with cars this old, who knows what was done to them. I am just going to make it mine since it is not a 1 of car.
It is getting side pipes this weekend and transferring the engine and trans from a 89 firebird that I twisted the unibody on before the end of the year so it is all good.
What surprised me is that all 12 bolts for the exhaust manifolds came off with little to no trouble and I was even able to save the heat stove from the drivers side and some vacuum thing from the passenger side.
Looks like some parts are going to be for sale in the coming week.
