So,,,, I'm LS swapping a 1972 C3. I got to thinking about the high pressure (1350) psi I will have out of my LS1 style P/S pump, just being to much for the 1972 power steering control valve. I can install a borgeson pressure reducing kit. The same kit as you would use with a LS1 P/S pump, and ford mustang II P/S rack and pinion. That will reduce the pressure down to like 700 psi. The kit is adjustable. So my question is what is the operating pressure of the old 1972 P/S pump?
I seem to remember reading somewhere the operating pressure at the cylinder is between 50PSI and 1000 PSI.
Going straight with no steering input is around 50PSI Standing still and turning wheels to the lock is up to 1000 PSI...
Not sure about max pump output pressure...Info should be out in the ether somewhere...
Also not sure about the metric to SAE fittings...But I guess this swap has been done a few times before and someone has that figured out...
Maybe swap the early control valve for a later model, metric?

Thank you for the information. I will shim the P/S pump for around a 1000#s turning the wheel. I don't want to loose the steering wheel feel, or blow a seal. The metric to SAE adapter is from ICT Billet i think It goes from metric to #6 AN hose.here's a picture.

I was just thinking a control valve from an 82 would be metric and could possibly have higher pressure rating / better seals. etc.......Don't know for sure...Just thinking out loud...
