I have a 1977 with the interior light delay option. When exiting the car the interior lights stay on for 5 or 6 seconds. The problem is the lights will not come on until 5 or 6 seconds when entering the vehicle. I have an AIM catalog, but have trouble following it with electrical issues. Hoping someone might have a solution or an idea where to start looking.
If you have the assembly manual the location of the original timer is on UPC 12L Sheet 8.1
"IF" it's still the original timer it should remain on between 10 and 20 seconds.
I still have the original timer in my 77 and have never had an issue with the lights NOT turning on when entering the car.
I suspect it was replaced at some point with a ON-OFF delay relay.
That would explain why the lights do NOT turn on until 5-6 seconds after opening the door.
"IF" it is a ON-OFF delay timer you might get lucky and it may be the adjustable type where you could turn off or adjust the delay ON to 0 seconds.
Or you may be able to just wire it so it is OFF delay only.
You need to locate and document what type of timer you have...
