1982 — I need to replace neg battery cable. Where it leaves the bat box on bottom of box is a large grommet like plug. Does that plug come out? If so, how? I can sort of push cable through but VERY tight. Thanks. View under car
Yes, push, twist, bend, gromet out of the hole, from the bottom up into the battery compartment.
You could try spray lube to prevent cursing so much...

Yes it comes out, they get hard with age and difficult sometimes, a little lube will not hurt. Some of the new cables come with the grommet, try to get one of those...
