Default Lower radiator hose

I just bought a 1975 coupe. Did a complete tune up, plugs, wires, cap and rotor. New belts and hoses. All done except for the lower radiator hose. I can't figure out how I am going to get access to it. Any suggestions?

Ah, one of the great C3 challenges! (Actually, one of many.) Loosen the radiator end from underneath, the water pump end from up top. It's definitely a struggle and small hands are invaluable to get the radiator end on the tube. A smear of vaseline inside the first inch of the hose helps it slide on a bit easier.

When you DO get the old one off, look for a spring inside. Reuse it if a new spring was not included w/ hose.

I think I took the W. Pump end off first and use the entire length of hose for leverage? Don't remember.

When you are ready to install the new, smear some clear Permatex RTV on both snouts (W.P. & Rad)
That will not only "lube" but will provide a water-tight seal when clamped.

Put the new hose in boiling water (I used my big gumbo pot) and get it really hot then put on the engine side first!

Call me lazy but I personally cut it in half and then it’s much easier to remove it in two pieces.
replacement costs about $20, but you save time and a lot of swear words
