Any advice on installing side pipes on my ‘69 427? Presently I have rear exhaust with the appropriate back panels. I’m thinking this might help with the heat problem in the cockpit…I’ve tried wrapping the pipes w/asbestos wrap material, plugging holes in the firewall, insulating the floor, shifter area. This seems like the logical next step. So…I will need to replace the back panel that surrounds the exhaust pipes now. Can’t seem to find the correct panel. Next, will I need the 2.5” down pipes…is that correct? I’ll be staying with 2 ½” pipes since a 4” pipe would bring the clearance too close to the ground. Anything else to consider? Any and all advice is appreciated..
You should be able to purchase the 2 1/2 big block pipes for your car that will bolt directly to the manifolds and this should be what your looking for as far as rear body
there is a brand new set on face place for a big block. I think it said 500.00 you will have to deal with shipping
Here you go. If you stop driving it just think of all the money you could start saving instantly
2.5" down pipes ?????? maybe look at what you want to install, these don't exit with 4" pipes out the side, or have I had to much to drink today
Oh your NOT looking for headers your looking for the single pipe going down.

or I could have had too much to drink today, I just assumed factory style 69 side pipes, if not the Doug's big block black headers are only about $800 new or so and no shipping with summit.

The stock 427 side pipes do get hot enough to sting when you bump the covers but not 3rd degree burn horrible. I would get the stock covers and go with the HighFlo sweet thunder c2 chambered pipes with C3 tips. They sound great and come in various size down pipes so you can get the most performance out of them. I have the 2.5 inchvwild version but you can get the 2.25 inch in stock or quiet versions. These dont get anywhere close to hot as the exhaust is just passing though compared to the really restrictive stock style dual chamber versions
