Default Front Brake Calipher pistons

My '77 vette 350 L82 has been under major repairs for 5 months. I am trying ti put the caliphers and pads back on the disk but i cannot get the Calipher Pistons to go back far enough. I have tried to use a pad separator and a large adjustable pliers. I even tried a wooden wedge , no luck. All of the flex lines where changed 5 years ago so that shouldn't be a problem unless they have collapsed again on the inside.

Are the pistons stuck? Has the brake fluid turned to sludge? Try to open the bleeders and try placing a piece of wood larger than the rotors and the brake pads and dropping the caliper and pads over the rotor. The wood will pop out of the top. Jerry

Do you have an otherwise stock system concerning the master and front/rear brass pressure switch?
Is your problem on both sides of the front?
A piston or two could get cocked in a bore and not move back. If any look crooked, use a wood block to try to get it squared up – maybe pull it further out and then back in.

Another thing to look at. Remove the master cylinder top cover. Put a rag over the top. So when you push the pistons back, the fluid can rise up in the master. Thus allowing the pistons to retract fully.
