A friend has a 1968 Corvette that he has to hold the turn signal switch lever or it will center on it's own. He had a new switch installed, and the problem is still there, but now on a right turn, when before changing the switch, it was the left turn that he had to hold the lever to keep the signal light working.
I asked if the steering column bearings seemed to be loose and he said they are tight.
As I remember driving a 68 Corvette back in 1980 the turn signal did not return to it center position. You had to manually switch it back to the neutral position.
