Default How do I get the electronic module out?

How do I get the red Mallory unilite ignition module out? Do I have to pull the distributor out or do the weights and springs just pull off? Thanks!

The centrifugal weights do come off, but you should be able to swing them out (you need to turn the module as if it's advancing) to get at the screws underneath then

Thanks Mooser, will expand out the weights and look for the hold down screws, will that allow both the weights and the black disk to come off so I can get the ignition module out?

There should be a pair of screws holding the black parts in and also there red pickup. I believe the back part is in two half's so everything should be able to come off from the top. Removing the springs and the weights should come right off to get them out of the way

Make sure you have a ballast resistor on these....if not, the optieye will not last long.......
Years ago at the shop.......I had about 7 of these on a 18" peg on the wall.....and every Saturday I would sell about 4 or 5 of them, at $90 a pop 2005 money......sometimes to the same person who refused to believe that it needed one, but it is right there in the instructions.....
Never seen so many angry people MF'ing Mallory products when they all had not installed them properly.....some flat out refused to believe me even after I showed them the manual......

That style of Modge, may or may not require Heat Sink Compound.

I think you have to pull the shaft on those to remove the module but it's been a long time since I worked on one , the shaft looks like it needs cleaned, lubed and inspected closely where the fly weights pivot as it looks all rusty , also looks like it has some pretty stout advance springs but hard to say in a picture .

Well there are no screws to be found when moving the weights out of the way…. Starting to think the only way to get the Mallory ignition module out is to pull the distributor anyone else able to confirm? Read a few posts where people swapped in a new module on the road, so I would think it would be simple.

Definitely no screws under this half

No screws holding down this half either

This is what I was expecting to see, a #501 regular 57-74 GM conversion.

Instructions attached

Can you see a different number on there anywhere?

I believe the split is right here

You should be able to press the two bolts that are sticking up down and out and it'll separate the black window rotor then remove the two screws for the module

Yes. The 605 is the module that the 510 conversion kit uses
