Default Carb question

Can anyone tell me what this part number and date code translates to on my carburetor? I know it's not correct for my 68 327/300 auto but would like to know exactly what I have. The reason is I am hoping it might be worthy to somebody as I am hoping to acquire the correct carb and hoping I could swap this one for it or sell it and use the cash for the right one. I have searched the internet as well as the NCRS manual and can't say for sure the exact details. The 70... number seems OK as a 69 carb but the number below it I can't quite figure out. The carb I do want is 7028208 DB for a car made in late June. Thanks.

The carb shown is a commercially rebuilt carb, sandblasted and hacked, that has some funny stampings on it. Notice how the "9" is smaller than the other numbers, and it's missing the assembly plant code letters. The number itself is indicative of a 1969 Hi Perf carb, but the date code shows a 1967 or 1977 build date. If I were looking for a carb, I wouldn't buy that one...

This is a correct "SR" (Service Replacement) 7029207 carb with the correct, original (but worn...) colors, coatings, and stampings for an SR carb built in 1973:

The "real" 1969 carbs had the "rounded-top" throttle lever. This is a 7029202 "real" 1969 (not an "SR") carb showing the actual 1969 throttle lever configuration:

The '68 carbs look similar, but have a unique throttle lever that looks like this. 1968 small block throttle plate and lever:

Thanks. I appreciate that. It works for now. I'll eventually get the right carb for my car.

The '68 carbs are getting tough to find in good rebuildable condition, and they're getting pricey. Once in a while a good one will pop up on eBay and other similar source sites, so it's just a matter of checking regularly and continue on the "quest" with perseverance. Don't ever buy a "pretty" carb - those are the hacked commercial rebuild jobs, and most of them are fake re-stamps. When you find a good candidate, I'll be more than glad to review it for you and provide comment if you e-mail me a link to the carb you find.

I added a photo of a correct 1968 small block throttle plate and throttle lever to my photo post above so you can see what it should look like. I have other photos of the various components of the '68 small block carb if you need visual reference.

Lars
Lars just reviewed an eBay carb for me and I'm so appreciative of his help. It's very difficult to know what to look at and look for to know if the carb is any good. Thanks Lars!

Hello everybody. Just wanted to ley you know that I replaced the bowl gaskets/tightened the bolts and the leaking has stopped! No need to replace the bowl/metering block gaskets. I have also received my fire extinguisher and the Element E50s all of which are in the Vette. For now the fire extinguisher is just sitting in the back, with the E50s in the glove box. Thanks again everybody!
