The C-8 just Barely beat the Venerable 69 427. (If you got 1 million plus). The 67 427/435 h.p would be a Serious race, as we know that 67 BB was pushing into 500+ h.p
The numbers are amazingly close-

The C8 is a thousand times the car that any factory C1-C7 Corvette could ever hope to be. Sub-3 second 0-60mph time with a top speed of 195mph is the performance of the standard model. There is no other Cx that even comes close in standard trim. Additionally, the C8 is a very street-able car with good manners at all times while the '67-'69 435 & L88s are not nearly as amenable to daily driving. Once a curve enters the roadway, the C2 & C3 are just lost in the rear view mirror.

A 69 ZL-1 pushing 850HP would be an interesting race against a C8 Z06 in the 1/4 mile... 11 sec flat for the ZL-1, 10.5 sec for the ZO6...
But if it has a turn in the race course, it would be like a Ferrari vs a truck.

I would also add if that straight line is no more than a quarter-mile. Even then I would still put my money on the C8. Comparing the performance of the C3 with the C8 is like comparing a biplane to an F-16. I'm a huge long-time fan of the C3 Corvette but let's get real.

This comparison misses the most important component of a sports car. Otherwise a 3-motor Cybertruck is the best Corvette ever.

I have not had a chance to drive a c8 Z06, but the c7 c6 Z06 s the first thing I do is shut off all the driving controls. The computer fights against you. If you try to do a late braking and pitch it into the turn to hit the apex the computer starts going nuts alternately braking different wheels. Then when you floor it coming out of a turn after the apex the computer senses tires going different speeds and goes nuts again cutting the engine power and alternately braking different wheels. It makes for a nearly uncontrollable car that you get pissed at.
abs is really great at stopping in a straight line, but what if you intentionally try to brake to pitch the car sideways? Even the sports mode traction control is debatable and generally geared towards the 75 year old man that bought his first vette and wants to beat the hot chick in the car next to him at the light 😁

This summer I was asked to conduct a corvette owners drag racing and safety course for a bunch of Z06 people. The local club member that contacted me had actually showboat launched his vette and got crossed up and had to lock it up after crossing into the oncoming lane. His 427 is only 505 hp and a 6 speed. I turn all the computer aids off and run it up to 2500 rpm and slip and then drop the clutch. Straight as an arrow every time.
The old debate on c-3 vs new vettes is dumb. You have to compare apples and apples. You can't believe some article from a 1970 Motor Trend drag strip numbers. Also if you put exact same modern tires on your hot rodded C-3 it would come down to a HP per weight contest as to who would win. My brother in law has the top of the line 2022 vette. Not Z06 that year. The variable cam timing and 8000+ rpm is impressive, but it doesn't have the TQ of my 434. Both are fun to drive.

50+ year old car vs a new car. 50 years later not that much better. Show me anything made 50 years ago that's almost as good as something modern. I think the engineers in those days were doing all right. Not really impressive if you take a look at it 50 year old versus modern. Give me the 50 year old car any day of the week. C8 meh.

2023 C3 of the Year Finalist - Unmodified
The ‘69 L-88? Maybe.
My friend let me he drive his ‘21 Z51 just yesterday. It was my first time driving any C8. I was a lady, and didn’t make any “where’s the clutch” comments…There’s no way to even compare a 1969 Corvette to a C8. The 0-60 is something like 2.8 seconds, and quarter mile is low 12’s. This of course isn’t a Z06. He did the Ron Fellows school, and said the C8 can easily do 140 on the track.
Others here can probably verify this, but I was told that back in the day, the small block L46 was quicker 0-60 and quarter mile than the 427/390 L36, and so guys liked the 350 for the sprinter races, but the 427s of course were overall faster with top speed and longer races. My ‘69 L46 had a 0-60 time of 6.4 seconds; according to the automotive press articles I found at the time, this was faster than any other Porsche for sale in the US at that time. I know the Ferrari 308 was considered the “cheap” Ferrari, but heck, it was good enough for Thomas Magnum…my ‘69 L46 still had a better 0-60 time than the ‘82 308 (6.8 seconds), let alone “regular” cars. So, the “muscle car” era Corvettes were super fast, and of course we know what happened to engines. My late 1980s car had just over 100 HP, and 200 HP cars were super fast. But, over time engines became more efficient. That being said, my ‘69 L46 can still beat today’s Toyota Camry and the Honda Odyssey in the 0-60! Woo hoo!
The C8 is a technological marvel, and it was a blast to drive. I can see why it’s so popular, and it’s attracting buyers who wouldn’t have otherwise considered a Corvette.
The ‘69 Corvettes were, in my opinion, so ahead of their time, and, I think, their good looks get them overlooked as a “muscle car” from that era. Even when some people refer to the later C3s as the “malaise era Corvettes,” having lived through that era as a kid, I can tell you that the Corvette was always a treat to spot “in the wild,” and that a fair comparison is to what the other cars of that era were doing. Cars back then were terrible. Kudos to GM for adapting and keeping the Corvette alive during those challenging years. Indeed, the 1979 Corvette was the top selling C3. There was a definite hunger for cool cars. If Chevy had thrown in the proverbial towel in the late 1970s, we wouldn’t have the amazing modern Corvettes today.

Gee I wonder what kind of top end my 68 L-88 would have had if a. 6 speed transmission were available. I don't care how good the latest corvettes are it took them 50 years to make them ,better? I can't possibly imagine how many years of corvettes are slower than my 79 L-82 with 400 ish horsepower. It's funny more than once I've rumbled into a gas station with a brand new Corvette at the next pump and people surround my car.

Put headers and slicks on the 69' ZL-1 or L-88 and it will run tens......
You need an E-Ray or Z06 to run tens......with 650hp on both cars........
All about physics folks.....

Dead on the Money. The C-8 is Obviously Much more Advanced given 50 years of technological development. HOWEVER
Give me the old school C-3 with a few squeaks and some straight-thru side pipes without baffles and I am Much happier! I want to hear that cam Lope at Idle. Sound, feel & smell of a modded C-3 is Tough to beat.
I will Always prefer the look of the C-3.
