Default Help

Can't get the bolt holding the lower A arm to the cross cradle of the frame off.

Got the front two off. The single one towards the rear won't budge. Got its nut off, but the A arm seems rust-welded to the frame. Do I try to drill it out? :mad

Penetrating oil and impact, and if you can't get to it with impact(or if you don't have one), use a big breaker bar. But soak the heck out of it with penetrating oil.

I've sprayed it, put the air tools to it. How about heat?

Jay, I called but got your machine.

I think I had the same problem. I don't think I got that bolt out on either side. I had a heck of a time separating the lower control arm from the crossmember. I think it took all of one Saturday to do the one %^&$#@ :cuss :cuss :cuss bolt I finally wedged the CA off & beat the crap outa the bolt to get it out because by that time the threads were shot! :cuss

I ordered new replacement bolts(all 3) but the new ones semed less durable than the ones I removed! I replaced it with a new grade 8 bolt from the Sears hardware store.

Default Re: Help (1970 Stingray)

We finally got it off with a breaker bar from above using some extensions. I got the new driver's side parts on. Tomorrow it's the passenger side. I hope it's not the same nightmare.

VBP directions really suck. It's not that they're wrong, just lacking a lot of info.

Do you have a Dead Blow hammer? I would use one with a punch to the very heart of the bolt. Wear some goggles and SMACK THE HECK out of it.
