Looking for some advice. Long story short, I have a Qjet with a stripped fuel inlet housing that needs a rebuild. With everything going on with Lars, last thing he needs is a PITA like me asking questions. Figured I would ask here.
I read his papers on carbs
I understand that truck carbs are not a good candidate
My question is, is the main body of a truck carb the same as a main body of a car carb? If so I can just get a truck carb and transfer everything else over? Jet and rods and plates and all?

I've been in contact with Bill, and we're going to get him squared away on his carb repair.
My daughter's young son is especially impacted by the loss of his mother, so we're going to use Bill's carb as a "together" project in the workshop to get his (and my) mind off of the tragedy. Maybe he'll find his interest in life and become the next Q-Jet builder...
I'll post up a thread about Bill's carb, the repair, and the setup once I receive it.
No.....the truck carb has a different air bleed setup at the booster.....Car carb is like a bulb...truck is like a Trapazoid.....
I haven't read all of his papers but he told me the truck carbs have the most potential.....in fact he asked me if I had a specific carb (78 Chevy truck 350) pt# and I did....he said that is the most tunable carb out there of all the Q-Jet series as the air bleeds make for a super nice fuel curve once jetted....I don't know the number off hand....it is covered up on my Camaro....
I would urge you to attempt the Main Body Heli-Coil repair yourself if you have access to a mill or drill press.....

This is what makes the world go round.....you are an incredible force.....
Hello All
As Lars said, I will be sending him the carb. Probably ship it out on Monday. With everything going on he still has time to help others. This is what a man is and what the whole world should aspire to be.

Was actually able to ship it out this morning and they say you should have it on Jan 11. Followed your instructions as you outlined for packing and info included in the box such as personal info and mods. Disconnected the idle solenoid and the air cleaner stud and kept it. Disconnected the piece at the top of the carb between the primaries and secondaries, put it in a plastic bag and used the screws that it came off of to secure the bag to the carb.
A little Lars , now that should be a blessing to us all.
My Mom will be 99. March 1st and can't imagine life without her. I really can't imagine what those youngsters are going through.im in Florida but if I can do something. Just ask.
Just filling everyone in with the back story of the carb.
First got the car back in 2014and it was running fine so I just enjoyed it. As with any classic car you get the itch for more power. So this year was the year to build and install a 383. Had a week to build the engine and swap the engine into the car as my boss let me borrow space in his garage for the week. Otherwise it would of been done outside.
Pull the car in on Sat 12/23 and get started.
Engine was out on 12/24.
New engine in and buttoning things up on 12/27.
Went to take the inlet off the carb and it came out with only a 1/4 turn. I was like, this is not good. Looked at the housing and there were more threads on the housing then on the carb. Yet another PO strikes again moment. Guess I was lucky it lasted that long.
Had a panic moment and went to a local carb shop on Thursday 12/28. He said he was going to look if he had an extra body to swap out and to come back later. Come back later and he decided to take the top off to see if he could match the bodies up. At that point I told him just give it back. He had his guy put it back together as he did not offer doing a sert on the inlet and at this point I would not let him anyway. With the car needing to be out the next day I decided to epoxy the inlet nut to the housing. Lat the flaming begin on this. Anyway got the car running the next day and it was pig rich no matter what I was able to do. Was able to get it moved and that is where this thread started.
I could only imagine what he is going to find when he opens it up but I know I am in the best hands possible. Besides fixing all the FUs he will also set it up for my engine.
Smeding 383 short block
RHS 200 aluminum heads
2101 intake first gen
Lunati 60121 cam .515 intake .530 exhaust
Sidepipe headers
Not the best combo but it should run decently. Will change the plugs as I am SURE it needs it and double check timing once warmed up.
The one good thing about this is I am reading up on how these carbs work and have a better understanding. Once I get the carb back I will not adjust ANYTHING on it as I am sure it will not need it.
That is my story and I am sticking to it. Be gentle with the comments until he gets it and posts up the post mortem comments from the disassembly.

Cliff and I have been working together for several decades, and we're actually in touch with each other on a daily basis. I always yank his chain about the fact that I have never read his book, and he ribs me over the fact that he has never read any of my articles. Yet, we both build carbs and set them up exactly the same way. We agree on every aspect of carb setup and engine tuning. Whether you have Cliff or me build a carb, you'll end up with the same setup, with some minor differences: Cliff installs all new hardware. I like to refurbish and refinish the original hardware. Cliff likes to install a cool adjustable APT system into the 4MV carbs, whereas I like to set the APT up so it cannot be easily changed and messed up. Cliff sets up the secondaries to open vertically, and I like to align them with the secondary airflow baffle. We both use the same parts, and we actually make parts for each other. You'll get exactly the same tech advice from either me or Cliff regarding a Q-Jet, so I can't argue the recommendation to buy and read his book. If you do, I suggest you order the book directly from him at Cliff's High Performance rather than getting the book through Amazon. You'll pay the same either way, but you'll short Cliff a few well-deserved bucks going the Amazon route. Cliff needs the money more than Bezos...
