Back at work on the ‘82, tackling the issue of fuel delivery, or rather, lack of fuel delivery. We pulled what’s left of the old sending unit out, and…yikes.
So, one new fuel sending unit and fuel pump later, I have question about wire splicing for anyone who’s ever had to do this same process: is the below picture correct in it’s layout?
The included instructions simply say “gray to gray” (easy enough) but only says “ black to black,” making no mention of the black with white stripe. I’m assuming that both of these black wires would need to be spliced into the fuel pump connector, not just the solid one. Am I correct?
Also, I have a brand new AC Delco EP386, but as I move it around, it rattles. Is that normal or is it potentially broken?
I can't speak to the wiring but there shouldn't be a rattling, assuming you are referring to the sending unit. There is a ball in the vapor unit whose purpose is to prevent fuel from sloshing up into the vapor line. The vapor line is on the left side, toward the driver's side. The article shows the inside of the sending unit, the portion that dips into the fuel tank
