I've developed a intermittant squeak in my front end, and I decided to grease everything that can be greased. It's only been a couple of years and maybe 2k-3k miles since I did it last, but I thought it might help. So I dig out the old large grease gun, and it doesn't work. It turns out that the grease in it has solidified and turned into a solid, thick, fudge like mass, that won't pump through the gun. A little bit of thick oil had seperated from it and leaked out of the gun into the plastic storage bag. It's Chevron moly lube. Name brand, supossedly good stuff. Maybe 5 yrs old.
So, I'm thinking that this old, hard, grease, in the ball joints, tie rod ends, etc. has also solidified around the edges and it's not lubing anything very well. I also have a smaler gun, but it was empty.
The only grease available at the local AZ for my mini gun was STP general purpose grease. It stopped the squeaking. My can of 10 yr old wheel bearing grease still looks about the same as new. A little bit of oil did seperate, but it's easily mixed back in.
So the moral of the story is that some greases will solidify and not flow into every nook and crany, and may need to be flushed out or replenished more often than you may think.
I took a chance and went with Valvoline, full synthetic hi performance, hi heat grease with moly.
I’ve used it in the ball joints, tie rod ends, and front bearings.
I hope it holds up.
I learned this from the race shop. water proof for the chassis, sway bars, and ball joints. Extreme heat for wheel bearings. There are autherized amsoil dealers on this forum.
I’ve always used marine grease on everything.
Mainly because I used it for all the wheels bearings on my boat trailers and had it loaded in my grease gun.
It’s great stuff, it never let me down, but only available on line or at marine shops.
This time around, I went for the best quality all around grease sold through my neighborhood Napa Auto Parts store.

Is that some kind of California state restriction. I was at one of chain stores looking for something and I saw the green marine grease
