Sorry, I'm terrible at finding old posts and threads using the Search feature, but I know I've seen photos and descriptions of this before... I've finally allowed myself enough space on my garage wall to mount and store the hardtop from my '70. Like everyone warned me, once I took it off, I find it hard to imagine ever putting it back on!
So, I would love to see your best ideas and setups for long-term wall storage mounting solutions. Thanks!
Unless you have a high garage ceiling, then the top will have to rest on a wall. I purchased the electric winch with included lifting bars and set the top on a stand with rollers. I have seen where guys have used ropes / pulleys and set the top high on garage walls. Make sure the cart will work with your top, the one I bought has small wheels, so I had to put a square metal shim to raise the( sitting ) top up a few inches. Also, like you, I never put my top on, so I have a nice cover for it. I have the top sitting on the cart, on one side of my garage.
I love my hardtop and I put it on in the winter and take it off in the summer as my car is not a garage queen and is driven year round. A C3 with a hardtop on is the best C3 look IMO. I store mine the the basement propped up against a wall.
I used 1/2" electrical conduit. It is 56" long. I used 4 "eye" lags screwed into the wall studs. The conduit connectors screwed onto the conduit end are simply to prevent it from sliding off the lags.
The HT hangs off turn buckles which have an "eye" through the conduit and a hook, which goes through the HT bolt brackets on the lower end.
I have to lift one side to remove one hook then the other hook to take it down.
