Default L48 or L82

hello I need help please!
Im having my Vette painted and I cant find any information about which engine is in it. Except that its numbers matching and according to the vin/engine stamp it says it has the base engine for my 75. In 75 there was an option to upgrade from a L48 to an L82 for a fee. The person I bought it from waas restoring it, and put the L82 emblems. so I dont know what emblems to put. I want to put the correct emblems on the hood, The last 8 on the engine is 5S410374. Any info helps, thanks in advance!

If it's numbers matching and the VIN code indicates base engine it can only be a L48. 5th position of VIN J=L48, T=L82. The end of the VIN is only the build sequence.

The L48 does not have emblems only the L82 does.
The pics are a 1975 L48

Sounds like you got it figured out. The L48 came with painted stamped steel valve covers. The L82 came with finned aluminium valve covers. The L48 has a harmonic balancer that is just under 7" in diameter. The L82 has a 8 inch balancer. There are of course many more differences. But these 2 are easy to spot.
Many owners of many cars put badges on that don't really belong. It's a pretty common thing. It's there car and they can.
As stated above, if a factory look is what your after, the L48 did not have badges. The aftermarket actually makes L48 badges, so you could put those on if your looking for a bit of bling.

Not many people opted to upgrade to the L-82. My 77 L-82 is one of about only 2000.

2060 is the number of M21 transmissions which were only available in a L82. You could also get the M20 in a L82.
So the remaining 4000 L82s had either an automatic or M20.
