Does the ignition switch on the 68 vette have an accessory terminal? I replaced the switch and the wiring harness with factory replacements. The radio works with the ignition switch in the "on" position. Is there an accessory position so the radio can run without the rest of the electrical system connected? I have an electric fuel pump installed and don't want it running just so I can play the radio. I have the large wiring diagram from classiccarwiring.com and it does not show the radio on the diagram.

Same answer in the other post..If the wiring was put back to stock and the switch is a good switch, it should work
FYI GM and all auto makers did this back in the day to avoid burning up your points...the foreign cars had it as the first position to the right before run and start...
Well, this morning I had the same thought. The old ignition switch I took off the car did not have the ability to turn to the left...counter clockwise. So........I went to my Vette and grasped the key and voila! it turns left. Of course, the battery is dead from sitting for months, so I have it on the charger to see if the radio works in the accessory position on the ignition switch. I am glad I posted here to let a lot of people know I'm well-educated, but kinda dumb.
Now that I know that I had an accessory position on the ignition switch all along, I still have the problem of the after-market electric fuel pump I installed running when the key is in the "on" position but the engine is not actually running. It also runs with the key in the "accessory" position, so I still can't listen to the radio without the fuel pump and other electrical components fired up. I can't find a place to connect the fuel pump that is hot when the key is in the on position , but not also hot with the key in the accessory position. My wiring diagram is no help. Any suggestions?

I put a switch on the fuel pump relay signal side so I could turn it on and off without the engine running. I use it for testing a lot. I can crank the motor without worry of fuel flowing

the acc pin has power when the switch is in Acc or in run...wouldnt help with the fuel pump, the bottom one is IGn for ignition, that may only have power in run...

THe Acc fuse tap has power when the key is in ACC or Run but not while cranking so you dont want to use that for a fuel pump. I believe the IGn which is th eignition position ponly has power in the Run and Start positions so that would be a better location to tap for a fuel pump
Thanks for the suggestions. I had to add the electric fuel pump a couple years ago. When the engine was up to operating temperature and then shut off, the heat from the engine block evaporated the fuel in the carburetor so I had to crank the starter about 30 seconds to get fuel back in the carb so it would start. With the electric pump I let it run about ten seconds and then there is enough fuel to start the engine. I'll see if using the ign circuit to power the fuel pump lets me listen to the radio in acc without the fuel pump running.
