Let's Play A Game @ Engine Troubleshooting
Since everyone loves engine builds:
Can you guess what made this engine stop after only 10 MILES on a fresh rebuild?
Without watching the video?
It is OK to guess, but no "answer spoilers" until a few have had a chance to play!
I'll give you some clues as to what "Jim" found on autopsy:
Seized engine
Bent pushrod
Basically good machine work
One main bearing half shell @ .020" over others @ .030"
One rod cap backwards
No shims on main caps
Valve guide clearances in spec, but on tight side
Piston clearance in spec
New pistons
New valves
New valve guides
Umbrella valve seals
Valve seats recessed
No hardened valve seats
Valves stems given a cross hatch pattern
A couple of blue exhaust valves
One big missing clue ???
Jim's Machine Shop autopsies this very well and critiques the other machine shop's work.

I already saw the episode... interesting how there was a convo here a few days ago warning against what killed this engine.

Great to see that there are still some engine rebuilders that take pride in their work. I wish there were more of them. Jerry

Yes unfortunately I believe there are fewer of the good ones everyday.
My best friend was a great engine builder / machinist. He thought like this. Find the real problem.
I have tried to talk to a couple of other machine shops since he passed.....I was not impressed.
I even worked in a friend's shop for a bit and saw some of the shortcuts they and their suppliers take from the inside...... grrr...... it's a sad state of affairs.
