I have a 70 and am putting in a ZZ4 I has thinking of going with Hedman extreme duty because there pipes are thick and the flanges are 3/8. Anyone running a set
I bought a set of Hedmans and they hit the frame rails on both sides, the drivers side frame for the engine mount and the steering box.
I sent them back with a bad review.
Then I bought a set of Hookers.
They cleared the frame rails, the steering box and engine mounts, but the passenger side hit the idler arm.
I sent them back with a bad review.
With all the complaints about the poor fitment of these headers, nobody has ever complained to Hedman or Hooker (Holley).
We all need to complain so they fix the problems but they won’t if they don’t know there is a problem.
My Hooker sidepipes fit just fine. No bashing for clearance, though I have manual steering with a stock steering box. I found them on Craigslist, though, so I can't say what a previous owner may have done.
My Hedman side exit headers fit perfect no dinging anything but it is so close to the bottom of the Idler arm that you can't grease it short of un bolting the Idler .... I do have rear exit hedman that I have had ceramic coated black that I hope doesn't need dinging as I just assumed they would fit like the side exits , ugh
You small block guys are lucky with tons of manufactures to choose from.
Us big block guys have only two, unless you want to pay for a custom made set.
Summit brand are the best for the money and have zero issues. Good ground clearance starter clearance nice flange. Hookers aren't that bad either but summit are better
These are hookers.

Seems that over the years header options for rear exiting BB powered Vettes are certainly disappearing.......definately the larger tube sizes. I've had (about 20 years ago) Hedman 1 7/8" that fitted perfectly around the chassis and steering components (but really had the collectors too close to floor pan and the roasting feet problem that brings along) - my current 2/1/8" ceramic coated Supercomps (fitted about 12 years ago) also fitted 100% perfect (but presumably being 'race headers' hang too low and too far back in relation to route through the chassis).
I read on one of the Chevy forums, where a guy purchased three sets of Hookers for his Chevelle.
He opened all three boxes side by side, then mixed and matched one header from one box and one header from another, until he found a set that fit his Chevelle on both the drivers and passengers side.
When he was done he sent back the other two sets.

If you want a set of Hedman to fit right, which I also have had for numerous years with one dented tube. If you live by Whittier, California and have a C3, drive over there, show them your C3 and have them fix their current line of headers to fit the way they should out of the box. This issue on a lot of different headers has been go on for decades and probably will continue for even more decades. Ugh! Does anyone remember when the cost of a regular set of hooker headers was $125? Does it really cost that much today for the same headers...Jus sayin'.
I have a set of the Long tube Hedman Headers on my 427 in my 1968 C3. They fit on like a glove and I did not have to bend or dimple anything to get the system to work. My only problem has been with the ceramic coating that doesn't last very long. I don't have AC and the area near the engine is wide open with lots of room. Even with the headers I can change all 8 spark plugs in less than 1/2 hour from the top.
