1970 big block with AC. My cigarette Lighter light bulb is not working. I replaced the bulb but that didn't fix the problem. The cigarette lighter itself still works fine. any suggestions? The gray wire seems in good shape. Corrosion? Is there a fuse to check? Any help would be appreciated.

Reason: Added year, make, model.
All dash lights are on the same fuse.
Cig light is connected on the same circuit as the heater control light on the console (and PRNDL lamp if it's an automatic). The share the same ground which is connected to a tab screwed to the shifter bezel plate.
If the heater control light works and the cig light doesn't then there's something wrong with the grey wire or light socket
If they both don't work, check that ground

Update. Got it working! Trying the bulb in the socket but not reattached to the cigarette lighter, the bulb did not illuminate. But once I put the bulb socket back on the side of the cigarette lighter socket (and this was a feat in itself, taking 45 minutes of patience with my left index finger in the hole left by the removal of the ash tray) the bulb magically works. I don't know if it grounds somehow or what, but it is working. Yay!

The cig lighter housing is the ground. Once you touched it with the bulb socket it makes the circuit.
