About to pull the trigger on a leaf spring and need some help picking one. It’s a 1981, I’m doing a LS1 swap, I’m looking at 9.5” wide rear tires, and I’m looking to lower it about two inches. I was looking at the 360# low arch composite leaf spring from VanSteel (hoping that and along with 8” rear bolts will help lower the car the way I want), but I’ve had a few people tell me to get a shortened spring.
I’ll be honest, I know next to nothing about shortened springs. None of the benefits. The only thing I know is a shortened spring can lead to more wear and tear, and I don’t know that I want to introduce that and have to stay on top of the upkeep.
I'd call VanSteel and explain to them what you're after. They know these inside out and will be able to help you select the right one for your setup. Good guys down there.
