this is a problem that they had a number of years ago. If you break the cam in according to thier specs you should be fine. 262 comp is a good little stick
I prefer the 270, or 292 solid lifter, they have a rumpty rump idle and still enough vac. for the brakes.
I'm new here so I speak softly!!
I've got a XE262 and i broke it in according to instructions, no problems with about 5-6k on the rebuild. AND now i wonder, Does GM break in the cams on their new cars??? anyone know???? just curious.
...If you break the cam in according to thier specs you should be fine. ...
ALL mech/hyd cams should be broken in properly!
If you don't break the cam in properly, they may all have "soft lobes" whether Chevy, Crane, Crower, Comp, etc., etc., etc.!
If broken in properly all quality cams should be fine!
Most of the new cars have roller cams, which dont require break in like a flat tappet cam. I have seen flat spots on 70,s L 48 cams that had only a modest amount of miles, my 74 included [34000 miles]. I would bet that these cams were wiped out early in their life.

I don't know if Pontiac cams are differently built or oiled, but there were a lot of people having problems with comp cams on http://www.classicalpontiac.com and I was wondering about my future plans.
