Hi guys I'm looking to get more power out of my L81 small block 350. Im looking to get a new set of heads, manifold, cam and carb. I want to run the stock pistons and still run the engine on pump gas what do you guys think are my best options?
You have a 1981, which has a lot of one year only computer controlled systems, making things more complicated, but not impossible. Here’s a post asking the same exact question with some good information in the replies.
Add all that up (and don't forget a new distributor, since you won't be able to tune the 81 CCC system at all), and compare that to the cost of a crate engine. Or a lightly used, but better, engine, perhaps one that has tuneable EFI.
Does it still make sense to do?
The 60K mile L48 in my 79 was not worth rebuilding. Are you sure yours is, before you jump in?
