The number of teeth is actually 168. Does your starter in question have two sets of block bolt holes? If it does it can use either size flex. I always have used the 168's just for ease of starting.
Budman,
I put a mini-starter on my '73 with a 153 tooth flywheel. All the aftermarket mini-starters have 2 sets of in-line holes to use with both sizes of flywheel. Make sure your block is drilled and tapped for the in-line (not standard offset) holes. However, don't know about the truck starter. You can get a new, hi-torque mini-starter for less than $125. I highly recommend.
