Default No power

By accident I reversed the polarity on my 1969 vette and after the battery arched I heard a few clicks and saw some smoke under the hood I hooked up battery and the car is dead no lights or anything. Where do I start to look.

I would check your fuses, as well as the fusible links.

14 ga Solenoid Battery Terminal [Located @ Starter]
16 ga Horn Relay [Located @ Drivers Side Inner Fender]
20 ga Voltage Regulator No.3 Terminal
20 ga Ammeter Circuit (both sides of meter)
In-Line Fuse
30 amp A/C High Speed Blower

Proper locations should be identified as well, I will attempt to supply later.

How does this happen?
My buddy at our shop did this last month and fried a brand new alternator, and melted the rubber exhaust grommets . CRAZY STUFF..
Sorry this happened to you.. No malice intended,,,, Just be careful. .
Good advice given on where to start looking.

Check fusible link in starter wire harness. Also alternator diodes may be fried.

Why would Chevrolet be interested in problems with a 55 year old car?

I think whoever controls the AI that runs the account forgot to limit Forum participation to C8s and C7s.
