Driving along and the car starts back firing
Now I’m on the side of the road waiting for a tow

cars been running great and all of the sudden this. Get it back home and hope to find out the issue tomorrow.

Remove clips from distributor cap. Remove 3-4 plug wires to allow you to lay the cap on its side.
Wipe down entire inside of cap with shop towel.

Been raining down there? Excessive moisture or carbon tracking will act like that.

If you have headers look for spark plug wires that are burned

Backfire (soot in the air cleaner), or afterfire (detonation of fuel in the exhaust)?

Please post pics! Perhaps your distributor clamp loosened up.

Found the issue:
one of the screws that hold the rotor in place worked itself out and messed up the tip and the cap


never seen this before

While you are in there I'd replace that purple connector on your coil. Appears it's not a ring terminal but one that is open on the end and just held on one side by the nut.

All back together and running good again new cap, rotor, and points from Summit Racing. I put a touch of thread locker on the screws so it doesn’t happen again.
