The only person that I am aware of that is able to rebuild the crimped fuel pumps is Fred Ballard in California.
His email is fredsclassics@hotmail.com.
I spoke with him and he seemed very knowledgeable, unfortunately like the gentleman that refurbished my 1973 Delco Radio, business is booming. You could buy a replacement fuel pump, and then send your OEM unit to Fred. I found a Delco Radio on eBay and sent it Robert, while I left the factory radio in my car. It took a few months before he was able to get it fixed. Once I received the restored radio, I took the one in my car and sent it to him to be restored. Let’s be honest, these guys are craftsmen, and there doesn’t seem to be guys jumping up to take there places, once their gone, we are SOL. Even the speedometer repair shop I used a few back, stopped doing the mechanical speedometers and tachs, the owners son, who took over, only does the electronic instruments.

totally agree.. i also used robert. Same holds true for some on this forum..
op, are you wanting totally original ? I would consider rebuilding too with all the crappy new ones out there but not sure how much rebuilding one is.
Fred has rebuilt 2 crimp style fuel pumps for me.
Both 40482 pumps.
The first one I wanted it replated and it took almost a year.
The last one, which was recent, I only wanted it rebuild. No plating.
I had that one back in less than a week.

May I ask the cost? I have an original. I never heard Fred Ballard and put on a Chinese pump. My point is I can take the time to get mine fixed while I still drive the car.
What purpose would shelving an operational pump serve? Just carry the Delphi in the storage well.
I'm in the same boat with my original '67 pump - it works with no issues. Guys on the NCRS forum suggested running a replacement and having the original rebuilt in the meantime. Their rationale is that when it dies folks like Fred Ballard may not be around in the future, so do it now.
