I've got three warning buzzer assemblies all from 77-82, each with a different mechanism to create the buzz sound. I'm curious about the use of the various components to create the sound...each shows a different way which makes it interesting given they are all made by Phillips within the relatively same time period. The first two are Corvette applications while the third was used on many other GM vehicle models.
The buzzer was used to alert unfastened seatbelts, door ajar and headlights on with ignition off.
The first is a 77-78 buzzer and uses a disc to create sound. This is an early design used in 77 and perhaps early 78.
The second is a 78 that carries the same part # as the 77 but included a microchip along with the disc.
The third buzzer was used 76-78 and shows an electro-mechanical coil to create sound. I suspect Phillips experimented with different mechanisms to create sound. This particular unit was used on other GM vehicles, Olds, Vegas, Monza. You'll see the four tabs vs. two tabs above for Corvette-dedicated applications. Why? two seatbelts vs. four seatbelts! The two tabs for the rear passenger seats are shown with a diode connecting the two...what's that about?
The GM Olds/Vega and whatever represents, I believe, an option for Corvette owners who seek to replace a failed warning buzzer. The buzzer is not being reproduced, hard to find yet the GM# 461293 represents an option. I would like to do an article that brings this together for Corvette owners.

Without seeing a drawing one can only speculate on "ANY" of those circuits...
Years ago I found a youtube video of a guy that built one for I believe a 78, same as the 77.
I modified his drawing to my liking using relay logic...
A small encloser
3 DPDT relays
3 relay sockets
1 Piezo Buzzer (Door Chime Sound)
I haven't spent the time to build one yet but it would work...
Only difference between this and the original, the seatbelt lamp will NOT timeout if left unbuckled...
Funny, the first think I did when I bought my brand new 1984 Z28 was find that box and yank it out. I did the same with my 1986 Fiero. I can't stand those buzzers. Now you can't turn them off because it seems they are built into the modules.
I wanted to follow up on a thread you shared with us on the Forum.

I have been looking for a replacement for my 1978 corvette that failed and found a new GM# 461293 available and I was thinking of purchasing hoping it would work. I realize it has the 8 tabs verses our 6 tabs - you mentioned that could be for a 4 seatbelt car over a 2 seatbelt car. Curious were you able to determine if this waring buzzer would function on a corvette. Thank you for any feedback.

I couldn't see why it would not but have not tested it. Try it and let us know.
