A few owners prior to me decided to cut all the nose bracing out so I have replaced it. Now, when I go to install my grilles, they don’t seem to fit; they’re either too far back (I think?) or don’t seem to follow the body contours at all.
I didn’t find much help in the AIM. This all looks wrong to me. What am I missing or what did I adjust incorrectly? I think this is as far forward as I can get the brace. Drivers side grille. I think I’m missing a bracket? If I line up the grille with the side and bottom, there’s a big gap at the top. Is this normal? If I secure the grill on the left, it wants to hang too far in in the right. I’m starting to think these grilles (they came with the car but were not attached) are from another year; is the 73 grille different? This is the closest I could get but still has the gap at the top.
The outermost corner mounting tabs appear to be broken off. Also keep in mind the fit and finish on these panels was not great when new. If this is an original plastic nose section its likely shrunk and malformed but thats unlikely. Its more likely an aftermarket fiberglass nose and those kinda vary a bit from mold to mold.. Mine do not fit perfectly either.
Thank you for all the help guys! These photos and diagrams were exactly what I needed. I do not have the brackets that support the grilles so I will order them. Thanks!
