As it happens I don't need to pass the MOT test anyway (in the UK you can register a car over 40 years old as a historic vehicle and then it doesn't need to pass the test, although you are responsible for ensuring the car is roadworthy). I just thought the MOT centre would be a quick and easy way of of checking I wasn't running too lean and risking damaging my engine. With hindsight, I should have just adjusted the APT at the test centre, but I thought the values were so high they just couldn't be real.
All my numbers are steady state, when accelerating the accelerator pump pushes the AFR down into the 10s or 11s for a short while. I can easily get the cruise into the 15s by adjusting the APT to 2.5 turns out, this gives cruise values of 15.3 I thought it best to err on the rich side, but perhaps I will see what happens to my fuel consumption before making a final decision.
