I had a Naugahyde recliner, Kittinger Prince of Ease, they called it....finally the Nauga dried out behind my headrest area...so I recovered it....
mistake...no longer comfortable.....
junked it, and finally bought a Lazy boy leather.....
Naugahyde is really great stuff...strong durable, and sunlight proof, nearly....
thing is, it's given away to thinner cheaper junk.....which is also softer in some cases....
This is all too funny.
Actually, a search has revealed that Naugahyde was actually named for
the location of the original factory - in Naugatuck, CT !!
From the naugahyde web site:
Naugahyde, the original vinyl coated fabric, was first produced in Naugatuck, Connecticut in 1914. Since it had many of the characteristics of a leather hide and made in Naugatuck, the name Naugahyde resulted. Naugahyde is now manufactured in Stoughton, Wisconsin and distributed worldwide by an authorized distributor network. The fabric is widely used in a variety of markets including hospitality, health care, transportation, recreation, residential and many other commercial applications. One of the largest applications is for seating in these markets. Their web site is located at http://www.naugahyde.com

Ummm - I think I will go with the 100% leather covers. :yesnod:
They certainly are. It is regretable that sometimes they must be shot, but the alternative -being the "object of affection" of an amorous bull- is NOT an acceptable alternative.
We occasionally have sightings of the very rare Aquatic Nauga's here in Hawaii.......Jaq Stubdhistoe did a documentary of some off shore dives to capture these elusive beast during their migratory travels through Hawaii in the fall when the waters up north get chilly......The natives here used the hydes for making huts and hula skirts,....however after the missionaries arrived.....they made us all wear clothes made out of cloth...and go to church on Sundays....to worship some guy named St Christ Santa and some smelly tree full of lights.....Sure glad I live in Hawaii....Nauga hydes were plentiful here since we're always roasting one for a Luau.... :seeya Cappy
Mack,
I am trying to follow Chrysler's logic: what is Corinthian in New Jersey? And who was that fellow with the Spanish accent?
Ricardo Montoban? De plane boss, de plane!!!!
:withstupid: Yeah... I'm glad you could remember it. I was having a brain fart. The "Corinthian" thing was an advertising ploy. I'd been hearing the ad for a while and imagining people making seats in Spain. (After all, Ol' Ricardo was Spanish, wasn't he?) Then I read an article about advertising in the Wall Street Journal. One of their examples of misleading advertising was this ad.
