In 1971 I bought a Dodge Challenger R/T 383 magnum, slapstick automatic. Absolutely the fastest car I ever owned! I'll never get over selling that car.
Schmucker
Mopars can handle well, did a 100+ pass in a 4 wh. drift in teens w/ perfect control. The first PS car w/ excellent feel that I have driven was a 66 "midsize" Mopar.
My sister has a 70 Dart swinger (only has a 318) that my parents bought new and Dad and I restored 15 years ago. I always ask my Dad why he didn't buy it a year sooner with a 340, his reply "Your mother wouldn't let me."
Looks like Mopar has taken a sizable lead. I figured that would happen. I just love the look of the old late 60's Road Runners. With quarter panels a mile long and fat tires tucked underneath.
Chevy is definatly a winner. If not Chevy then some other GM product. Thats a given. Thats why I elected to keep GM out of the poll. Its obvious chevy is best. :chevy
Good choice! There is a restorable 1969 AMX with a 390/4 speed in a salvage yard ten miles from my home. I've had thoughts of picking it up and putting it in storage (before its condition gets any worse) for a project at some point down the road... I keep hearing how it is nearly impossible to get vintage AMC parts these days which is the main reason I haven't done anything to this point.
I would love to have an AMX (the one you've described sounds like a great project) but I haven't bought one for the same reason as you. If I could get a good complete one..... A buddy of mine back in the 80s had one and it was a screamer, even with an automatic. I wonder what ever became of it... or him for that matter.
Every time someone slams NCRS, remember this thread. NCRS is the reason we can buy almost every part ever made for every Vette ever made. :yesnod:
Well, this car definitely qualifies as a project...
Still, it has it's original driveline and the rust appears to be only on the surface. My 1969 Nova was in similar condition, but it turned out beautifully. Of course the parts for the Nova, while on the expensive side, can still be found... Unlike the AMX (and the reason why I'll probably pass on this one). Of course, two or three years down the road I'll probably be kicking myself over another missed opportunity (I've had more than a few of those).
I'm with you though... A restored AMX would be a neat car to have!
I had a ford back in 69 and early 70 that I really liked, It would run low 10's just the way it was driven on the street. I also have a 355 nitrous, caged 89 mustang that I really like right know besides my vet.
This is the old 69 ford 428 Cobra Jet, 12.5 pistons, hand built tunnel ram with two 715 holley carbs, ported heads, healthy solid cam, high stall convertor, C6 transmission ,4.56 gears and 12 inch slicks.
Sorry Can't find the picture. :) :)
This is an easy one...1969 428CJ   I had one just like this in HS, spoiler, slats, wing and shaker hood. Paid $1,200 for it when I was a Junior and kept it half way through my Senior year. Traded it in on my first Vette, 1969 Yellow convertable. In hindsight I should've kept it and bought the Vette :smash: :smash: . For you young pups around here gas was only about .30 cents/gallon so ya didn't care if you had to fill it up everyday and nobody considered having a wing as "rice". :lolg:. Sometimes I miss the good ole days :D
This would be my very, very close second choice. 1970 Boss 302.
