1971 LS5 Fuel Pump (AC car)
I installed my current engine and fuel pump but not sure on the least painful way to replace the bad fuel pump. This is a LS5 with air conditioning, and I don’t have access to a lift.

You pretty much have to do it from underneath regardless and it really helps to remove the passenger front tire so jack it up and put it on some axle stands, block the crap out of the back wheels if you're leaving them on the ground.
A long extension and you can get at the pump bolts from the wheel well opening fairly easy

I changed out my '72 LS-5 w/AC fuel pump in a hotel parking lot. What Mooser says is about the only way to get to it.

Do some reading that will instruct you on how to keep the rod in the engine. If you know how that’s great.

I think he might have been talking about bumping the motor to get the pushrod onto the base circle of the cam to help make it slightly easier

Oops, thought he was talking about the front “set screw” to hold the rod. I think I can figure out the bump to move up the rod though.

Yeah, no through screw hole to hold the rod up on the big block

Didn’t know the front screw was on small block only.
