What does this switch go to and what is the purpose. The solid silver ***. I’m referring to the solid metal switch to the left. It has a left, center, right option.

Reason: Adding year
The switch is not something installed by the factory. Going forward, you will receive a great deal more replies by stating the year, engine, tranny, and other pertinent information.

The control next to the switch in question looks like the stock odometer reset control. On my 1968 car, the bracket is much smaller and does not have a second location to the left for a switch or control. The bracket in the picture looks to be bent out to accommodate the larger switch. I am guessing this is a bubba replacement switch for a later model car that originally had a switch control there for some additional feature.
I even looked in the OP's profile looking for what car he has. Nothing.
Dear OP. They made C3 Corvettes from 1968 -1982. There were a LOT of changes through that many years!
Also, only the guy who put that switch there knows why he put it there. Follow the wires.
I guess it doesn't matter what yr the car is, it's not a factory switch.
Looks like a Single Pole, double throw with center off position.
Could be from some former Fog lights, Day time Running Lights, Alarm system, stereo -tape player system. Under-hood lite. Electric fuel pump. Nitrous tank warmer? Passenger Ejection Seat.
Who knows?
What year car and what color are the wires to the switch? Perhaps we could check OEM wiring didgrams to see if the original c=switch was replaced with an generic aftermarket switch.
Definitely added by a previous owner as everyone above states. Here’s a photo showing what that bracket looks like on my ‘73. There isn’t anything in that hole on the bracket which is also used to hold the left side footwell light, which can’t be seen in the OP ‘s photo.
