I purchased my '76 in November and I've only gotten caught in the rain a few times. Last week the wipers were slipping off the outer edge of the windshield and then they hit each other in the center and stop until I can free them up.
A few months ago, I loosened some of the joints in the wiper mechanism in order to waterproof the fiberglass below the wipers, but I checked those joints and they are not loose.

When in the park position the lower arm should be adjusted so it will sit Below the wiper stop. You then pick it up and place above the stop. Then adjust the other arm so it rests on the lower arm. For more detail look in the AIM.
