Default Clutch Fork Ball Stud

I'm getting ready to set up my clutch mechanism (stock mechanical) for an automatic to manual TKX conversion on a 1972, and am finding some mixed information on the clutch fork ball stud length. I've seen a page posted directly from a GM parts book showing 1966-'75 using the 1 3/8" long stud (part # 3887159), while some pre and post years calling for a 1 1/2" long stud (part # 3729000). Does anyone have any background info on this, and why Chevy may have used the 1 3/8 stud for ten years, then switch back again? I'm about to install the transmission, and just want to make sure I install the correct one, especially after I was sold an incorrect fork.

Boat196 - Thanks,..Yes I had found/read all that prior to posting. The mystery was, what looked like a copy directly from a GM parts book that showed the 1 3/8 Ball being used for 10 years, until 1975. Some of the corvette part houses show the 1 3/8 for that period, as well. I measure the new one that came with the bell housing, and it was a 1.5", and the distance from the engine mating surface to the ball measured precisely 4.75", so I went ahead and used. After mounting the bell housing, it seems OK. Fingers are crossed, until I actually get the transmission in there.
