Yes, The timing is good now, it seems to be good now . i did it by hand originally retarded it alittle then advanced but didn't work until i put it on the money 8 degrees.
Now that i did it at 8 degrees even with the advance not working it stopped running on. .
I also adjusted the carb, Did plugs cap rotor new external fuel filter and removed the one in carb because it was dirty when i opened it up.
. So far 3 test rides it hasnt done it, as soon as it was warm i had to put it in reverse because it was so bad drive would not hold it. thx!
Now i need my head lights working and my wipers don't shut off!
working on tightening up vacuum leaks first. the pass light goes down only when it is manually raised. driver side dosnt come up or down stayed up. i got a winker lol!
also my heater dosn't blow checked fuse its good, Next i will run hot directly to the blower to see if it works might be the switch? I guess or relay? thx in advance one thing at a time right.
8 is still an incredibly low number for an initial timing setting. You’ll want to have 36 degrees total at 2,800-3,000 RPM’s with the vacuum advance disconnected. This will put you somewhere in the mid to high teens for an initial number.
I would check over Lars’s timing papers again. If you didn’t mess with the springs at all then it’s likely that they need to be changed to get your full advance at the proper RPM.

8 initial is pretty low, and is not likely to get you to the optimum 36 total spec. 8 is a good spec for you to set up your aunt Florence's Caprice Station Wagon to. Getting a little more timing into it will allow you to decrease the throttle opening at idle (idle speed), and this will help decrease the tendency for the run-on after shutdown. A little more timing also decreases cylinder temperatures, which further decreases the run-on tendency. E-mail me for my timing papers so you can set it up correctly.

I would start with some saefoam and a tank of fresh premium as it's the easiest
Run the crap put of it and if that doesn't work address timing.
Cool thx.
I finally set the timing and it got much better instantly.
I retarded by hear first and then advance and it didn't seem to help.
But when i actually put the light on it at 8 degrees, it worked like a charm.
It still ran on with the idle too high. It has to be around 600-625.
i still have alittle be of crappy gas in it was a full tank when i got it. its about 1/4 now.
I Don't do full advance never understood it. I kinda do now but always relied on initial timing,
I set it at 8 degrees, lowered the rpm to 600 and all is way way way better still running out the bad gas.

I believe I gave your post a like, I don’t respond to every post. I’ll either like or respond to the ones I see fit. Thanks for the info.

I wasn't fishing. I was attempting to help you get help so that your replies are tied to what someone asked. It's hard to know what "No i don't have that just the wire." is answering.

That idle speed seems pretty low if you’re in park. Doing this will get you fairly close to where you want to be.

12 degrees at 700 idle (park) with vacuum disconnected and plugged.
With centrifugal advance "all in" .... gives you
35 degrees at 2800 rpm (park) with vacuum disconnected and plugged.
Hook up the vacuum / re-adjust idle to 700 idle in park / good to go!
