Need help solving a problem with my 79. Save your boos for later, I love driving it! All original, no upgrades. Has Muncie 4 speed and will shift thru all gears with clutch in, but wont move forward or rev when started and let clutch out. Wants
to stall engine. Checked all brakes and all are free. Got rear end off ground and wheels are very hard to move forward or back.
guess remove drive shaft and make sure trans output shaft
spins thru the gears.
if so, rear end.
park brake, bolt loose in diff, bearing/wheel, brake pads

I've never had a rear-end just suddenly seize without any noise previously. Although it's possible the pin did fall out that's in there....I doubt it though. Trannys do have linkage issues and will get stuck in 2 differenct gears. Usually 2nd 3rd or reverse and whatever gear you put it in afterward.
If you push in the clutch you would be able to move it with a push with your other foot out the door unless you are parked on gravel or grass, then you need friends.
When you lifted the rear end so the wheels were off the ground, did you put jack stands under the trailing arms to keep the half shafts level?
If not, the rear wheels probably wouldn’t turn because the half shaft u joints are binding.
Support both trailing arms and try to rotate the wheels.
Have you done any work on the transmission, clutch or rear differential lately?

Just went through the same thing. Linkage got funny. 2nd and reverse were both half engaged, would put it in any gear, let out the clutch and it'd die.

no, the rear wheels are very hard to turn by hand, but they will turn.

Have my jacks under the leaf springs but will mive to the trailing arms and try again.
no work done on anything ever.

You say the wheels will turn, but not without a lot of effort. Did you check to make sure the parking brake is fully disengaged? I had some parts that corroded the brake on earlier this year that prevented me from being able to move my car.
