Purchased a (supposed) 14,000 mile CE about six years ago and had a shop go through everything and replace all fluids and all
rubber mechanical parts. Due to back issues, the car has pretty much sitting for the past 3-4 years, with only very minimal short
drives.
I'd like to get it back on the road and was hoping to get some recommendations as to what should be replaced. And would really
appreciate it if you guys can recommend brands/part numbers etc. Looking to keep it stock and will drive it modestly, so not interested
in spending the extra $$ on high performance parts like K&N filters.
This is a great group. Really appreciate the input!
3-4 years is not a long time for most any of the fluids except for maybe the brakes. What have the storage conditions been like?
I'd prime oil to get the oil back up top, siphon most of the gas from the tank and pour in 5 gal. of fresh, get it started, and then go from there. If it's got decent brakes, then drive it for a bit to see if any problems crop up. After that, fill with fresh gas and change out the oil. I'd bet you won't have any problems.
Thanks, but if you're referring to Section Three, all I see is a recommendation for the oil filter.
Looking for what you guys think is best for oil, fuel filter and any other maintenance replacement items
for a car that's been mostly sitting for past 3-4 years. Thanks!
Pull the oil dipstick and check for oil color (light to dark amber); do the same with the trans (transparent red). Again, I wouldn't spend anything at the moment with the exception of fresh fuel.
If you want to change the oil prior to any start attempt, a lot of us like WIX oil filters (51069) and a high-zinc gasoline engine oil. For oil discussion visit the sticky notes at the top of the C3 Tech forum https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...performance-3/

Don't over-think it. There is nothing special about a Corvette: It's just a plain ol' GM Chevy with a kit-car fiberglass body. Change the oil, check the fluids, and take it out and drive it like any other ordinary car. That's what it is.
